Push

Published by Steve at 12:59 am under Movies

Just watched the Blu-Ray release of Push from Netflix. If you’ve read my previous entries on movie reviews, you probably noticed I tend to only do them when they’re less-than-favorable. That is a trend I would like to change, … but unfortunately this isn’t going to be the day that I do.

If you don’t know what Push is about, here it is in a nutshell: Psychic weaponry. A government funded agency of some sort is turning psychics into weapons with the hopes of developing super weapons by using some sort of serum. As per usual, some of the psychic subjects don’t appreciate being government property slash guinea pigs and revolt. The result is an action packed brain fight that culminates in a final confrontation that can best be described as lawlz.

For more background, here are the types of psychics that are used as weapons: Movers (who can move objects with their mind), Pushers (who can control other peoples’ thoughts), Watchers (who can see the future), Bleeders (who emit high-pitched screams that can burst blood vessels and are the most annoying and absolutely unnecessary of the bunch), Sniffs (who can track people), Shifters (who can temporarily change what an object looks like to others), Wipers (who can wipe memory but not wash their hands), Shadows (who can cloak themselves and others around them from detection) and Stitchers (who can heal or unheal people). Our heroes are a Mover and a Watcher who are second generations of their particular “breed”. This means their parents were originals. Together they’re on a quest to retrieve a case that contains an object that is destined to save their kind. I’m not giving too much away, but basically this and more is explained as the movie progresses and Dakota Fanning draws pictures in her notebook foretelling the future.

That movie was bad. Terribad. Horribad. Poor Dakota Fanning. She has so much more potential than this. Chris Evans as well, he was so much better in Fantastic Four and Sunshine. Which if you haven’t seen Sunshine, do. It is such a good movie.

The movie ends almost in a sense like it could leave a possibility for a sequel. I think? LOL! Not going to happen, sorry.  If it does, it’ll certainly be direct to DVD with none of the original cast whatsoever.

My recommendation: Don’t watch this movie. I’m reminded of the 2006 film, The Covenant. A combination of over-acting and pretend invisible fighting without touching each other. I guess if that’s your thing and you enjoy seeing real people throw Street Fighter-esque shryukens and kill others with ridiculous screams, then sure watch this. Otherwise, you’re probably going to find yourself staring off into space and slobbering down your chin begging for the credits to roll.

I haven’t seen a good word about this movie, so it most definitely will not be going anywhere near any of my players!
